The idea came from Gianni Agnelli, Fiat’s Chairman, who commissioned Ghia to develop a car that could serve as a tender to his boat; He needed something to move around trendy mediterannean ports not only in comfort, but in style. Ghia went ahead and removed all doors, seats, and roof to replace them with wicker seats and a folding surrey, leaving the car doorless for upraised comfort. It was a dream fulfilled the one Agnelli had requested, and as he drove his fabulous car around popular harbours it beamed for attention. So loved and recognized since the start the Fiat 500 Jolly Ghia Giardiniera remains to this day the most fashionable and adored car on the streets; The only one capable of getting more looks than a Ferrari.
